Lufthansa mileage made it possible to redeem a free flight to Europe and came to us for our wedding anniversary trip just right. We had chosen for the Midlands and so we booked our flights to Birmingham, a very nice B & B in Solihull and a car.
We did not have to wait long for the day of departure, because the book was pretty short this time. The night before I checked us in online and was able to print the boarding passes. So we had plenty of time on the evening departure. Only 1 ½ hours before departure, we arrived at the airport and was able to park thanks to the online booking for parking at a reasonable price. The S-Bahn to the terminal was not long in coming and arrived on time but then the shock. With us were about twenty thousand other people use the long weekend, but certainly not all celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Why it’s so crowded here? The end of the queue at the counter for baggage check was somewhere in a corner at the other end of the terminal. And our flight was in an hour. First get an overview. Where is what? Ah, over there is a lady of Lufthansa. I asked her if that was the only way to leave your luggage. She looked at me and asked where. Birmingham. A glance at the scoreboard, “oh, that’s already in an hour.” Oh well. “Where do you stand it?” In front of you! “We have not yet made.” Finally, we have been advised of the self-service baggage check. We walked over and there were only five people in front of us. Very nice. But apparently that was anything but self-service, because each individual had to help the ground crew. After 30 minutes we were finally able to make our case and proceed to the security and passport checks. Just before boarding, we finally reached the gate. Read the rest of this entry »
